Whew! Finally finished… Now I can enjoy the Decatur Jazz Concert tonight with my family and amazing village. Of course now I have to stay up all night coming up with a design for tomorrow. Self discipline is hard! 😀
It’s DAY 8 OF MY 17 DAY DESIGN CHALLENGE!
HOT OFF THE BENCH! – Please check out today’s design here.
“You think you are the lock on the door, but you are the key that opens it.” 13th century Persian poet and Sufi mystic, Rumi, speaks of universal truths that resonate with my spirit through time and translation.
Here is the complete poem:
You suppose you are the trouble
But you are the cure
You suppose that you are the lock on the door
But you are the key that opens it
It’s too bad that you want to be someone else
You don’t see your own face, your own beauty
Yet, no face is more beautiful than yours.
Know anyone who needs to be reminded of this?
I’ll be wearing this one for a while.
The copper pendant is completely handforged from sheet metal. After cutting it out by hand, I texture the metal with hammers and heat and then stamp the quote by hand. After applying a patina to darken the copper, I buff it out, texture it again and then put it in the tumbler for several hours to harden the metal.
The antique key is textured and darkened with a patina and then buffed using the same techniques.
